It will charge with VW cable and sync/charge to macbook with the USB cable but no sound/data connection with car cable. If the Dock connector is pooched, what is needed to replace it?

Eric, this sounds more like a cable issue than a hardware issue. "sync/charge to macbook with the USB cable" is most certainly a good sign. You did not tell us if it ever worked with that particular setup. I would check the other cable very carefully, may be consider trying a different one. The dock connector on this series is a PITA to repair. It is soldered to the logic board via 30 very small contacts and four holding pins. So not an easy task. Hope this helps, good luck.

Not a cable issue as I've tried various iPods (with this dock connector) with the Car cable and they do link for sound and power, et. I do believe its my iPods dock connector. If I'm not ready for solder microsurgery, what part is needed to get this functionality back? New complete Logic Board replace?
