most iPod parts are not only soldered to the logic board - the are "glued" to it. so replacint is not easy. i had a few bottles of a acid mixture to remove them - worked great - but it was extremely aggressive, never got this stuff again (it was from china, but a friend bought it with other parts in istanbul)

I have been working on the iPod touch 1st gen 8gb and 16gb so far. like right now i have a 8gb that works on everything except whatever makes the backlight work on the lcd. i tried multiple lcd screens and same problem on all of them. even tried them on a different lcd and worked great so its something in the logic board

Depending on the terms of the NDA, you may be able to get schematics from someone who signs up with Apple Dev Connection as an iOS device accessory manufacturer (Made for iOS, MFi). If it is a legacy product that is not currently sold or officially supported, I wish that the schematics would be made publicly available.
