Help with Craftsman Walk-behind Lawn Mower?

I have a Craftsman walk behind model 917.377962. It will start with the primer but dies right away. Why? Help me please.

thomas martinie, you are not getting any fuel after the prime. Check your carburetor float to make sure it works and check the needle valve to ensure that it works. Check the fuel tank and make sure that you have a vented gas cap. Check the fuel line for any kinks, pinched of areas and internal obstruction. Replace it if it looks old and weathered. If you can give us the engine make and model, we could try and find the right carburetor settings for your mower. Hope this helps, good luck.

Remove the gas cap and see if it runs. I have had two small engines that had defective gas caps and I drilled little holes in them and the motors worked fine after that. First remove the gas cap before drilling holes.

The mix is definitely lean. Start with the gas cap and then clean everything.
