hi,
when i turned on 3g its completely normal for a few seconds(sometimes few minutes though). i can only make calls and send messages when cellular data is turned off!!!i tried almost everything on here and Google.can anyone help me here? :( :( :'(

Hey Lan,
Considering it states "Restore Needed" have you attempetd resetting the phone to factory settings through Itunes? That way you can find out if it's a software or hardware problem.
Also, when did this start happening? Was it after a drop? After spilling water on it? Or does it seem completely random?

My daughter has my old iPhone 4 and it started doing this. I restored. It did the same thing after a few minutes..... I restored again, and again.....No difference. So I searched the internet and tried everything possible. (New SIM, turning off the PIN code, turning off 3G, Restoring in various modes.....etc, etc)
I was about to throw it against the wall................
"Wait.....", I thought to myself..... Sometimes it doesn't register that I take the SIM out, and sometimes it didn't register when I put it in, or it took longer than normal to notice.
"Maybe the contacts are corroded or covered in dust?". I sprayed WD40 onto to SIM and inserted it. Voila!
2 days and it hasn't lost signal. Hasn't asked me to restore. Runs perfectly, again.
I can only think that the contacts were dirty. No idea how because it's in a case, and the SIM hasn't been out...... Almost 2 weeks of stress and head scratching for a quick squirt of WD40.

I have same problem my Iphone 4 GSM lost signal and no service appeared specially when I use cellular data for internet browsing, so I will try ur way and clean the SIM card place, hope it will work....

sometimes it shows "RESTORE NEEDED iPhone cannot make or receive calls,please restore!"
