Signal loss when charging

Hi all,

When I have my Iphone 5 charging or plugged into my computer USB port, the cellular signal will drop to no bars. I cannot receive or make calls, or text messages. The battery charges fine to 100 percent and the phone works fine when unplugged from any external power. I would like to fix this because I cannot charge my phone while I am sleeping fearing that I would miss a call. I did a restore from ITunes and it did not correct the problem. Can anyone guide me in the right direction and what part I would need to correct the problem? I tried resetting everything with negative results.
