Touch Screen Digitizer Partially, if not completely, unresponsive

I have had a couple screens now for the 5 / 5C / 5S that have both ended up having trouble with the touch screen. Some areas are responsive, others are not - two screens that have specifically not responded over the "Q" on the keyboard.

Other screens have trouble picking up on swiping, or touching one part of the screen will select another. I've even had screens that go HAYWIRE and start sending random signals, causing phantom texts/swipes/calls.

I've never had this trouble working with 4's, so I'm wondering if:

  • Any one else is consistently having this problem?
  • This is a typical issue with installing screens into the 5?
  • There is an installation "watchout" when pushing screens back in (i.e. where to push when reinstalling) that could possibly help prevent this?

Thanks for any/all help!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

The screen is falling off and I can see light coming out of the phone

Sometimes when we go out i notice that the digitizer fails and we have to turn it off and on again

Does anyone know how we can fix this or has a simular experience?

Make sure you aren't screwing any screws that are to long into the back of the screen, because that can damage the screen.

Are you buying your screens from the same vendor? If so, it is possible the vendor has received a "lot" of bad screens.

Are you touching the ribbon cables excessively with your fingers? Maybe the connectors are getting dirty. You could try cleaning the connectors prior to reattaching them.

I have the same problem of phantom touches with Iphone 5. With another (original) screen i have the same result. I've done a lot of repairs and this is the first time i encountered this. I am desperate for a solution! The repair itself was without any problem. Nothing got damaged as far as i can see.

I'm having problems with my iphone 5c. It is working fine untill the pop up boxes appear (the one that pop up when you need to enter apple id and pass, or agree to things) then it is completely unresponsive on the whole screen so i cant accept or enter anything with keyboard. It's really frustrating. I've done iphone and other phone repairs for 5 years and i've never come across this specific problem.

Seems like nobody has an answer to the solution, but does anyone know the cause? I have had my 5s for just under a year and it has never done this before. It started only today but that's long enough to recognise the issue.

i think the issue is dust/moisture i replaced my 5s screen myself and it worked fine for a longtime but it wasn't sealed of properly now i have the issue that my phone sometimes texts by itself if i touch the screen. so i think it is some kind of moisture/ dust problem with the digitizer or the cables of it

My iPhone 5s is having same problem and after writing to the Apple community I came up with the solution that my Phone "Digitizer" may be having problem and needs replacement.

Furthermore, my phone was behaving normally since iOS 10, but after upgrading it to the latest version now, I'm !#^&@@ off whenever I'm trying to type text on keyboard or sometimes now even if the phone is in standby mode.

I guess now its time to change the device, as it's in my hands since 2014.
