Bravia KDL46W3000 LCD TV "Backlight error 12". Why?
Switching on Sony Bravia 46 inch KDL46W3000 LCD TV currently results in normal operation for about 5-10 seconds. It then blacks out and the red light flashes in groups of 6 pulses, with a 3 second gap. I manged to keep it going long enough on one occasion to bring up the self diagnostic panel which gave zeroes except for "Backlight" which showed error "12".
It doesn't appear to be a backlight dead problem -- there's nothing to be seen when shining a bright light on the screen -- and it works fine for a short time. The problem started as intermittent a week or so ago, and it would work normally most of the time. In the last 24 hours it has become solid at less than a minute of operation before dying with the flashing light
I have tried "power reset" and also "reset to factory settings" (the latter worked the first time I tried it a week ago). There are no current software updates for the device, but it is only connected to the internet via a Mac Mini and HDMI cable anyway.
I am running out of ideas and can't find anything about "Backlight error 12" on the web. I am about to remove the back and do a visual inspection of the insides
Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.
Is this a good question?

There are four multi-wire connections to the processor from the T-Con boards. I unplugged these both ends and plugged them back again (eight connectors total. This cured the fault. The connector pins and sockets are not gold plated so there was most likely a bad connection in there either due to oxidation or a bad pin/connector.
So, problem solved (I hope -- it has been running happily for over two hours).
