horizontal and vertical lines keeps on increasing

Hi,

I own a late 2009 21.5inch iMac (ATI4670) which has similar issues. The number of horizontal and vertical lines keeps on increasing. When running the apple test tool no issues are found.

I once took it to an apple dealer for analysis and they said the logic board was faulty, producing lots of errors.

Now since then ( 1year later) this Mac still runs but connected to a more ugly 2nd screen via the displayport/HDMI without those lines. I am running constantly SMCFan because I am convinced this iMac can produce too much heat before the fan starts working.

The flickering of vertical lines seems even influenced by the sound!

I haven't yet replaced anything in this iMac but I am quite interested in what could be the real cause of all this.

kr,

Peter

You were told the fault - a bad logic board. Since vibrations from sound make the problem worse I suspect a loose or failing component in the on-board video display chain.
