Grey Screen is display saying hold power button to restart

When I turned on my iBook, everthing was operating as it normally had and booted without any noticeable problems. After a short time the screen went gray and there was a power button symbol in the background. It states to hold the power button to restart the computer. I followed the instructions and it continues to direct me to do this process over and over again.

Can any one help/guide me with some trouble shooting techniques?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

This is called a kernel panic. Insert your system disk in the optical drive and start up holding down the "C" key. Go to the second screen and the pull down menu will appear. Go to Utilities - Disk Utility and repair the hard drive. Keep doing so until it runs clear. This failing, you will need to reinstall the system.

How do I go about resetting the ram + Ralph?

by

Hi, Just remove your ram and check the sockets and then reinstall the memory one stick at a time. Ralph

I tried this solution as well, and my extra memory stick is not recognized. Only the one on the mother board is being use/ recognized.
