Blue /phantom screen and stop at starting OSX: how to fix it?

When I power up the iBook at cold, it runs at 100%.

For ex. I'm upgrading OSX 10.3's components at the moment.

BUT: when the iBook is still warm or I restart it, the starting OSX procedure stops with a full blue screen without the apple logo or, worse, sometime a phantom light shifts from right to left, disappering from the left side of the LCD and leaving it dark.

What's this problem from? How to fix it? Help me please!

Thanks and regards from Italy, Mattia

Chosen Solution

GPU chip

is going. Sudden heating cooling of the chip affects the solder joint, this is a "known issue". Shimming the chip or reflowing the solder can be a temporary fix.
