Won't turn on but some signs of life (fan/status light/battery)

Hi there,

I've just got a macbook pro that is pretty much dead. It doesn't respond to the power button but when the charger is plugged in the status light comes on continuously and the fans start to run. It is also impossible to stop the lights and fans without unplugging the battery.

I'm assuming things like PRAM and SMC resets won't work without the computer booting (though I've tried resetting the SMC).

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about trying to bring it back from the dead. I'm assuming my only option is to replace the logic board?

Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it. Some history would be helpful.

Either the machine has suffered liquid damage, or, someone has opened it and damaged or not properly connected the top case (keyboard & power button) to the logic board. If the ribbon cable connecting the top case to the logic board is damaged, absent, or disconnected you can not reset the SMC... However you might have some success by using a USB keyboard...
