does screen replacement iPhone4 require ios7 to be installed?

Recently cracked my iphone4 screen and ordered a replacement screen on ebay. Seller just sent me email stating that I need to have ios7 installed due to the replacement LCD screen has the latest microchip or whatever and will only work with ios7. I have ios6 still and don't want to upgrade. Anyone had this issue??

Are all screen replacements the same as far as needing ios7?

It should work on iOS 6 it's iOS 5 that the newer screens don't work on
