How to repair torn EMI shield

I'm trying to peel back the EMI shield per your guides but it is really sticky. I already have about a 1" tear after only peeling about 1/3 of the way. So, questions:

Is there an easy way to get the adhesive to "release" from the edge?

Can I repair the tear in the shield with electrical tape when I go to reassemble?

I partially resolved the excessive stickiness problem by using a Q-tip moistened with non-acetone nail polish remover. As I peeled up a little edge, I could moisten the next part which allowed it to release more easily. This was as sticky as duct tape.

Advice: Go very slowly, "teasing" up the next part with the Q-tip. There is still plenty of adhesiveness for replacing the shield.

Chosen Solution

Electrical tape is non-conductive. Fold a piece of aluminum foil over the tear.. do not attempt to adhere it with anything just pressing it in place prior to reassembly should do the job.
