Can I get data from my unrepairable iPod 4th gen?

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen 32 GB which was working fine then stopped charging. I ordered a battery from iFixit and carefully did the repair - pulling in an expert friend for the soldering - but no luck - still dead. I suspect it could be the charging port or a mistake on the soldering. Can I get any data (photos) from this device by removing a card/chip and using a card reader or is this data not able to be recovered?

Answer this question I have this problem too

The iPod Touch 4G uses Toshiba NAND flash drive memory for data storage, and accessing this (by taking it out and putting it into a working iPod Touch, for example) is almost impossibly difficult.

For more info you can check out the teardown, or perhaps this answer: Toshiba NAND Flash Memory - one or two chips?
