Upgrade SSD by replacement part?

Good day,

I have been scouring the internet regarding a possible SSD upgrade for mid-2013 Macbook Airs.

What I found so far are OWC's 3rd party SSDs but none for the 2013 version.

I then read through the different threads on this forum and the bottom line seems to be: so far no 3th party SSD "upgrades" exist.

However, I was curios about whether a replacement SSD could solve the problem.

This comment got me slightly confused though: link

The added comments slightly confuse me because of the " he can't upgrade the SSD yet as there is no 3rd party options!".

Does this mean a replacement drive of higher capacity will not do the trick?

Should this work, all I'd have to do afterwards is to order a replacement part and swap the ssds/copy the current conent of the ssd on the new one?

Finally: wherever I went to look, 512GB replacement SSDs seem to be out of stock. Additionally, I only found iFixIt and macbook-doctor offering them, or at least listing them as out of order.

Is there anyone with knowledge about whether there will be ever be a new batch of 512GB replacement SSDs available?

The only place to find them was ebay, and I am reluctant about ordering such a part over an auction house.

Thank you in advance for your help!

AFAIK there are no 3rd party drives for '13 MBA's at this time (if you just looked)... IMO OW computing will be the leader when something does become available.... they always have lead in the past.

One bit of advice, or philosophy. An MBA is meant to be a working computer, but more like a paper notebook or notepad. You do your traveling work on it ... then transfer or backup that work on another computer or system. It is not meant to be a full use storage computer like a MBP or a desktop. Maybe you need to rethink what you're keeping on your drive... Most Movies, Music and Photos for example, should be kept on a separate external drive. As you add "storage size" (aka larger SSD) to your MBA you add weight... which IMHO defeats the purpose of why one chooses an MBA instead of a MBP in the first place.
