Seagate hyperdrive crash after six months

Upgraded the 160GB hard drive with a new hyperdrive and after aprrox six months the macbook pro 13" has major issues. First started like almost virus like issues. then would not boot up. Left the drive in and booted from an external case with my original drive and it worked fine. Then installed the original back in and tried booting from the new drive via USB and it worked for a while. then would not recognize the new drive at all. Now I boot from the reinstalled original drive and it works fine. So I also checked to see if I can pull the files off off the new drive and I was able to see everything, for a few uses. Now the new drive is not able to be read at all (via USB). Now, from what I had read I ordered a new hard rive cable (prior to using the new drive not working at all via USB) as that was the most common fix. That obviously did not fix it. I am fairly confident that the hyperdrive is bad. but only after 6 months? I ask this only because i have read that the new update for mac doesn't allow non mac HD's to work? Is this correct and there may be a chance I can still recover the files off the new hyperdrive? Also the HD's you sell, will they be a official "good" replacement that mac will be able to run/use for years to come? Many thanks!

The hyperdrive moniker has been replaced with the SSHD term for hybrid drives (SSD + HD).

Some of the early Seagate drives had issues with their firmware (go to Seagate's web site to check). Some drives didn't work well in some MacBook Pro's as their firmware also needed updating. And lastly, the SATA I/O speed of some drives was too fast for the given system.

Can you give us the exact model of your drive so we can verify if it is a workable drive in your system. Seagate also has a two year warranty on these drives so you might be able to get a replacement. But you will loose what you have on the drive.

Some drives are bad. Contact Seagate for a warranty replacement.
