Screen not working, is everything else ok

Hi

I'd like to know if just my laptops screen is wrecked or migth there be another problem.

I have ASUS X50SL

This one:

with Vista

While working, my laptops screen turned to horizontal rainbow lines and then turned off (the lines have happened before, for a fraction of a second but not the screen turning off) and my computer rebooted.

Also, sometimes I have 2 short beeps at startup.

Thereafter my computers screen doesn't turn on. An external monitor works but my laptop always rebooted after windows screen (and windows screen had horizontal blue stripes on it, whats that about?). Safe mode worked.

So I reinstalled windows. Now the laptop works with external monitor but laptops screen doesn't work. Also, when starting up, I still have blue vertical stripes at the windows startup screen.

Is it just my screens problem, would changing it solve it? Or is it sth deeper?

Please help.

failed, or cannot detect hard disk.)

Solution:

Please try the following suggestions in turns to resolve this issue:

1. Try replacing your IDE/SATA cable connected to your hard disk.

2. Try replacing your hard disk.

Kardo Aia, since an external monitor works, you can be reasonably sure that your GPU is okay. Check the LCD ( LVDS) cable, make sure it is properly seated. Check the cable for any bare spots and tears. If all of that is okay, change the LCD panel itself. As for the 2Beeps on POST, this will depend on what BIOS your computer has. If it has a AMI Bios, then it most likely is a memory module error. Hope this helps, good luck.
