Unresponsive screen due to liquid damage.

Hello,

My IPhone 5, 16GB was recently blown into my pool, which as you can imagine caused some liquid damage. However, it was wrapped in a towel when blown into the pool and only suffered the water for about 15-20seconds.

When i first checked it out to see if it was okay, the screen was working fine, as were all buttons and both speakers, but after about 15 minutes, the screen began to become unresponsive.

I dried out my phone as best as possible with tissue and turned it off(this was real hard to do with a screen that does not work haha!) Also, as i am in spain currently on a vacation i do not have any rice or silicone for me to use.

Do you have any advice or tips that may help me to dry out my phone, or if it is more severe, any advice for replacements or damage repair?

Thanks in advance

Abbey, the very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart the phone. This may further damage your phone. As with any iPhone, I strongly recommend that you clean it. Disassemble it by using these guides. Clean it properly using this guide. It was written for a 3G but all the points still apply to your phone as well. Once it is properly cleaned '''replace the battery" reassemble and re-evaluate. With a new battery and properly cleaned, you will have a good starting point should any further trouble shooting be necessary." It does not matter how long the immersion was, it will have to be cleaned properly to prevent corrosion. Not sure how long you will remain on your trip, but the longer you wait the more corrosion damage you might experience. May be there is somebody local that could at least clean it for you. BTW Rice is a big myth and will not help you at all:-) Hope this helps, good luck.
