Why doesn't the backlight turn off while charging/synced?

When I plug my 5th gen iPod Nano into my USB port the backlight stays on and the screen just says Connected. Is this normal?

I figured the backlight would at least turn off at some point. :/

Thanks!

yes - it's normal that the backlight stays on

maybe it's a reminder that you should first eject it in itunes and not simply unplug it.

but maybe the "old trick" works for you - if you only want to charge it - eject it from itunes and let it stay plugged in - then should the regular backlight timer work
