track pad button stuck on

The trackpad button on my MBA seems to be stuck on so when i move the courser around the screen it highlights everything. if i plug in an external mouse I'm able to deselect the highlights and it works fine.

Thank you for the reply. However I should have made it clear that the button isn't stuck in the down position (I can still click it) it is just acting like it is down when I move the mouse across the page.

My mac air is only a year old. It started bouncing around after a few months but disappeared. Now it is doing it again only not going away. Everyone says Mac is the best but I am not convinced. the pad now has a mind of its own and moves around.

Options

Run a stiff piece of plastic ( preferably with a sharp point)around the trackpad seam and see if you can dislodge anything.
