Can I fix a lose magnet in display assembly without dissembling it?
I replaced the whole display assembly in my mid 2010 Macbook Pro because I cracked the screen in the old one. Once done, everything was working well except that closing the lid didn't put the Mac to sleep. I have fiddled around with a magnet to see if sensor got damaged in the process but it went to sleep as soon as I passed over it, just slightly after the left speaker grill, near where the mic plug is located. I went on with the magnet in my hand to look for the other magnet in the display assembly. As soon as I found it, towards where it should be, it clicked. As if it was loose inside and the magnet I was moving put it back in place. I closed the lid and surely, the Mac went to sleep. I opened the lid and the Mac came back to life, however I heard a click, as if the magnet moved. I tried once more closing the lid and it was the same, no sleeping.
I bought the display assembly whole so I didn't have to take it apart and not have everything fit back together nicely, like almost every Apple product I've tried to fix. Plus I don't have the tools to work on it. Since the part comes straight from the factory in China, the seller replied to me that there was no return or exchanges. Replacing the whole thing is an expensive affair I'm starting to regret.
Is this a good question?
