What is the piece of glue on top of transistors?

While drying logic board in rice, I mistok a piece of glue on the logic board near the ethernet connector for a piece of rice, and removed it.

On pictures I now see it is intended to be there. It covered two small transistors(?) or units with blank surfaces.

The glue is semi-transparent, and was applied as a thick line above them.

Do anyone know what the purpose of this is, and the consequence of removing it? No apparent damage to the components.

Sometimes the humidity in the air is enough to alter the transistors function so many electronic device suppliers cover them (not just Apple). Often they use a light hot glue or silicon sealer that is fast setting (UV).
