MacBook turns on but then freezes at a blue screen

I accidently dropped a book on the bottom right hand corner of my MacBook. Since then it has had this problem, freezes at a blue screen when i turn my MacBook on. I would like to fix this problem by myself, but if its too hard i would at least like to back up all my data before sending it into the apple store to fix my MacBook. I was told i need to use an external hard casing etc etc. Does anyone know exactly how to do this? Also, i cant backup my data right now with an external harddrive because nothing pops up for me to back it up. Thanks in advance

Take out the battery and reseat the HD

See if it boots. Did you try a safe (shift) boot?

If you can get the MacBook to boot in safe mode you could transfer(backup) your files to any external drive using a USB/USB or Firewire/Firewire cable.

If you can get the MacBook to target boot (T) and you have a box that can read GUI disks you could backup from the HD using above cables.

IF neither of the above works you can buy an external case for the SATA HD which comes with cable and use that to recover files to any computer.

Good Luck,

N.

safe boot - hold shift key down as soon as press power hold until spinning dial shows Target boot hold T key down at boot until Firewire symbol (y) shows.
