Why is my MacBook not charging when it has current flow?
I recently acquired a 2008 Macbook Aluminum version. The mac says that it will not charge. The strange thing is that the mac does actually charge but very slowly.
Here are some details that have made me think it is still possible to fix:
- The 85 Watt T-Shape Magsafe connection has a faint green light
- The laptop claims to not be charging, but has a positive amperage ranging from 90~140 mA
- The battery percentage does not lower, but retains charge when plugged in during normal use
- The battery will in fact charge in small amounts when left to idle
What I have tried in order to fix it:
- Cleaned the magsafe pins on both the computer and charger
- Reset SMC and PRAM
- Various methods of reseting, and restarting
- I tried removing both sides of the adapter and plugging it back in
- I used two additional L-Tip adapters (60W). One of them work, but then I unplugged it thinking I had fixed the issue. Upon plugging it back in the mac would not charge again.
Other Notes:
- The macbook was apparently used as a HTPC, so may have been left in to charge for long periods of time.
- I disassembled the device to see if there was any visible water damage and the machine looks pristine
- Various softwares tell me there is current flow and about ~1.3 watts getting through the connection.
- Battery appears to be official branded and only ~2 years old.
I would like to get this resolved and have ordered a new Mag Safe DC board to see if that works. Has any one else run into any similar issues, or have any ideas?
Out of curiousity does anyone know what component signals to the computer if the AC adapter is plugged in? (Logic board or Magsafe)

Is this with the charger plugged it? If so, have you checked your AC charger? Also, check the power/ continuity for the PBUS SUPPLY / BATTERY CHARGER circuitry F7000
