Broken firewire port (male Pin 16)

Hello,

my old iPod video 60GB won't charge / be recognised when plugged in - I believe that the male connector in the iPod itself is broken.

With the iPod clickwheel facing up, if I look into the connector, the 16th pin (from the left) got loose and is broken / has no contact. From what I read it is the GND (-) pin (is this correct?). What would be the best way to solve this ? I see that there are spare parts for hard drive cables but not the male connector itself.

Please advise and excuse my inexperience with this device.

Regards,

Wahab

Wahab, that is correct. Pin 16 is USB GND (-), internally connected with pin 15 on iPod motherboard. With a USB cable connected use a multimeter to measure the voltage between pin 16 and pin 18, you should have 3.3 V, same pin 15 and 18. The connector is soldered to the logic board and will require some strong soldering skills and good tools to replace. Replacement parts are available at places like this and here. Hope this helps, good luck.
