Why my iPhone 4 does not charge at all?

PLEASE HELP....My phone wont charge.

When it was connected to both the USB and wall charger, the battery icon on the top right did not change. Like it was not detecting any cable connection at all. I found out that the only way it can be charged, is by connecting it to the charger (any types) while the phone is on, switch on the charger and then turn off the phone.

So.. basically, I cant leave my phone's battery to be totally drained out or I'll risk having to buy new batteries each time. Also I am not able to use iTunes anymore since the phone does'nt seem to respond to any cable connections.

I've tried all of these but without any success.

1) changing the battery

2) used different charging cables

3) connecting it to iTunes

4) changing the dock connector

The repair guy did mentioned something about a PMU issue which they don't dare to touch because it may cause the phone to be totally dead.

Hi,

Thank u so much for responding to my question.

But I think my PMU is totaly fried!! . LEARNED ABOUT IT VIA THE SUPER EXPENSIVE AND HARD WAY!!!

I figured out that connecting a phone (not just Iphone..but other android based smartphone as well) to a car cigarrette power outlet while starting the engine WAS VERY BAD!!! . The power surge during ignition is required to turn on all electronics and mechanism of a car...which is too much than wat these phones can handle. And Im too dumb to realise.

Ohh.. Did I mention that this was my second iphone that suffered the same tragic end of fried PMU? Hahah. And also my Lenovo A850s' dock connector. Im so embarrased right now..

Thanks anyway.

noreen hazlin, since you already replaced all those parts, it does sound like you are having PMU issues. Those are board level repairs and difficult to do. The "not charging" can be caused by multiple things, like the cable, dock connector bad battery, bad charging coil as well as other components. Check for corrosion, loose connection etc. on the logic board. I marked the most common issues on the diagram. Check for continuity etc. Hope this helps, good luck.
