PowerBook shuts down after a few minutes when unplugged.

My battery (new replacement) is fully charged and when I unplug

the charger, the PowerBook shuts off completely after 2 or 3 minutes. I've reset the PMU, Pram, and taken the battery out for a few minutes and then reinstalled it. None of these steps has worked. A few months ago, I upgraded my harddrive (250gb),

a new optical drive, and put another 500mb ram card in (total 1gb). I bought all these from your company and I did not have

any problems whatsoever until now, With your new hard-drive

the computer ran even faster.

Do you think I need a new DC in board? Or do you think my PowerBook might have another problem?

Thanks - Lanny Grilly

Battery Capacity- 4400 mAH 59% Battery - loadcycles 488

IMnsHO means that battery is not new a new battery (a new battery would have less than 5 cycles on it). Depending upon your use (playing DVD or graphics) loading (bluetooth on or off) and Energy Saver settings you could be squirting through that 59% in a flash.

If you have bluetooth but not using it turn it off. If you're doing DVD's or high demand computing plug in or get a new battery.

Good Luck,

N.

Coconut battery Report:

current battery Charge -- 2553 mAH

Maximum battery charge --2625 mAH

97%

Current Battery capacity - 2625 mAH

Original Battery Capacity - 4400 mAH

59%

Battery - loadcycles 488

Age of my Mac 65 months

Charger connected yes

Battery is charging no

The current battery capacity of 2625 is surprising, since it is a fairly new

replacement (aftermarket) battery that was supposed to have 50% more

capacity than the original battery capacity of 4400 mAH.

Can someone determine if anything listed in the above specs would have

anything to do with my PowerBook shutting down after a few minutes, when the battery is fully charged?

The main problem is not the battery - the battery is fully charged, but the powebook shuts off after 2 minutes when I unplug it from the charger.

My original question was "when I have those symptoms - should I install a new DC-in board?"

by

The battery is "fully charged" but it has no storage life and so, in a short time it becomes "fully discharged".
