Why is it not starting up?

It goes to the Apple logo for a sec or two, the clicks, and then shows a red circle with a cross inside, and underneath in white "www.apple.com/support/ipod". I guess it's the hard drive, or the hard drive cable, or the logic board. This started happening when I tried to restore the iPod after it had been sitting for a while—it thought it was full, but only with "Other". Any ideas how to narrow it down?

Thanks!

ashik, you already narrowed it down. " the clicks," that is your hard drive not working. This can be because of a few reason. Number one being the drive itself. Get a USB to Zif adapter for something like $5 on ebay and see if you can access your drive without the iPod. The other possibility is a bad battery. If you have not enough power on your battery it can not spin up the drive and registers it as a failed drive. So replace the battery as well. Hope this helps, good luck.
