Broken MBP Logic Board, can I use the screen as a monitor?

My Macbook Pro has a broken logic board, the screen is fine.

I have a desktop now, but my monitor is terrible compared to my broken MBP's screen.

Is there anyway I can use the MBP's screen as my monitor?

I can solder and don't mind taking it all apart, but I'm a mechanic not really understanding all the circuit boards and stuff so all details/parts I'd need greatly appreciated.

If it's possible I'm happy to risk/document it for others to copy.

Many thanks,

Jay Brenals, there is a pretty good possibility that it can be done. I have now utilized 3 LCD panels from various computer and have utilized them as individual monitors. It is a lot of tinkering, fun and frustrating at the same time. Also, it can cost a bit of money to get it done. If you are interested and willing to spend time and $ lets start off by giving us the part number or manufacturer number of the panel. I am pretty sure that you will be dealing with a LED backlit panel, which makes it even more interesting:-)

hey, thanks, i wasnt rerally looking to spend much money or time to be honest, just thought if there was an easy way to do this it might be worth keeping.. ill probably sell it for parts and buy a good monitor as i dont really have need for a laptop.

many thanks for replies.

Sounds decent. Setup like this could run about $75-$100 so it is not the most economical way.

I know this is a bit old, but Oldturkey, could you explain roughly what parts are needed to convert the LCD's connector into a Thunderbolt or hdmi?

@Andreas Ranch, that will depend on your panel. If you can give us your LCD panel number we might find the right parts.

@oldturkey03, thanks for the reply! It's for the late 2008 MBP 15", ifixit's webshop gives me the this: Product code: IF161-069-1

Apple Part #: LP154WP3-TLA3, LP154WP4-TLA1
