Does mac 10.4 support itunes?

I have an iBook G3, it's odd but it's actually 11 inches exactly but it looks just like the picture of the twelve inch...but they didnt have an option for it. But anyways it is running on 10.4.11 and I upgraded to the memory to like 680, but it is still freezing semi often, and I hate having to force quit and shut it down. So I am thinking that maybe downgrading the version might help? I don't know what else to do. Command Option Escape never even works when it freezes. The only thing I am thinking of is does the lower version support Itunes? If it does, I will gladly try downgrading it... Plus does it come with Itunes already installed, because I doubt that version of mac would support the newest version of itunes if i tried to download it.. Any advice??

For what it's worth, yes iTunes will run on that machine under 10.3- but you will not be able to access the iTunes store, as Apple changed the format last year. I believe the latest version of iTunes you can run is 7.x, but I'm not sure.

If you downgrade to 10.3, it will install a new version of iTunes that is compatible. From that point on, just run Software Update a few times, and it should find the last version compatible with your OS.

Ok, so will I also be able to use high speed internet without hours of technical support to get connected? Because my other iBook has 9.2 on it, and it completely ignore the internet cable when I plugged it in. 10.3 is Panther, right? I was looking on ebay, and was slightly confused by what I was seeing because for some of the older versions or mac, they seem to be more expensive than the newer ones. I am looking for full install, correct?

Yeah, 9.2 is very finicky when it comes to internet connections. You'll find that 10.3 is much simpler- just plug the cable in, and you'll be good to go.

And yes, you need the full install. I think it's about 2-3 discs.

Yes, there are lower versions of iTunes. There was even a iTunes for system 9. 10.3 should be a good system for your machine, but even so I would max out the RAM.

Do you know why my iBook is 11 inches instead of 12? I am just super curious now. Does this difference matter if I need any parts?

by

Hi Sarah--did you measure diagonally? It should be 12" diagonally. Ralph + for good advice.

by

Wow did not know that. Actually it is 14 inches diagonally.. Does that make sense?

by

Yes it does, there is the G3 12" and 14" and G4 12" and 14"

Remove the battery and look in the compartment to see what iBook you have.
