Touch screen sort of works, but not really?

My dads iphone 4s today suddenly stopped working, but it still works? Let me explain!

It won't let you slide across the screen, but you can slide down to bring up the notifications, and control center. The sleep button works and i can't tell if the home button works because you can't slide it and open up the phone? Never heard of this happening before? Thanks in advance!

David, the first thing you want to try of course, is a hard reset. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time for about 15-60sec. Once the Apple logo comes up, you have done a hard reset. if that does not work, plug it in to your computer and try a restore. If those things do not work, you want to open up your iPhone and make sure that there is no corrosion on the connectors, make sure they are all properly seated. If that fails, it will be time to replace your digitizer by replacing the front display assembly. here is the guide for that. Hope this helps, good luck.
