Adding a secondary HD in CD device

Hello,

Since the CD unit stopped working I'm trying to use the space to put a secondary HD drive.

I bought a SSD where I installed Mavericks to use it as a primary HD and place the old one (Hitachi) in the CD drive.

(I'm using an adapter for hard drives where I'm trying to place the Hitachi HD)

I have a MacBookPro3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo. And these hard drives:

1) Hitachi 160GB 2,5 inch 5400 rpm SATA (old one)

2) OCZ-VERTEX450 SSD 128 GB. (new)

Hitachi HD won't show up if I connect it internally. I've tried to format it (using an external connection) with Disk-utility but no luck. It doesn't show up. I've tried all format possibilities without success.

If I check in "System Information" > "Hardware"> ATA> it's listed there.

Any idea how to fix this ?

Thank you !

Your 2007 machine has a bus speed of Serial ATA (1.5 Gb/s)

The new drive 6.0 Gb/s is backward comport to 3.0 Gb/s but is to fast for your older machine to use. Get an SSD or a hybrid drive that can be jumpered down to Serial ATA (1.5 Gb/s).

Hi,

but the one that doesn't work is the old one (Hitachi) in the CD drive .... or you mean that I should get a SSD to put in the CD drive?

thanks!

Are you saying the Hitachi drive WILL work in the standard position but will not mount in the Optical drive bay?

If the Hitachi won't show up internally or externally, it's most likely toast.

Hitachi shows up if I put it in his standard position and if I mount it externally (USB).

But doesn't mount in the Optical drive bay....
