How to replace cracked screen by yourself?

I live in California where earthquakes are a norm. This very morning a 4.4 hit and shook my room and dropped my laptop from the dresser leaving the screen with two cracks and a dent. I have done research and have come to terms with the fact that I will have to replace the screen out of pocket. I have model A1278 and am unsure if I can simply replace the glass or if the whole display is what needs to be replaced. Also, will I need special tools to replace it? Or is it just worth it to have apple or a computer place replace it? Haven't seen anything in terms of a price range on the web and would like help in that aspect. Thanks.

palomajasmen, follow this guide to show you how it is done. It will also tell you what tools you will need. The display assembly is costly (anywhere from $250 to $500) but most certainly cheaper than a new computer. Hope this helps, good luck.

You can replace just the glass. The 2009 Macbook Unibody 13" has the same model number and the same glass (I have both and the glass is interchangeable). I spent $16.95 for new glass from Amazon (Sold by TechSack, fulfilled by Amazon). The instructions are here. Good luck!

BTW, my comment only refers to the GLASS and infers the LCD is still functional.
