darren, The prot means it goes into protection mode and shuts itself down to prevent any further damage. It is possible that your DVD player has detected a problem in the amplifier section and is shutting down to prevent further damage. I would check is all of the speaker wiring. Sometimes it will indicate that the internal fan is not working or the internal sensors have failed to recognize that the fan is functioning. Hope this helps, good luck.

After checking the speakers and wiring, etc., for possible faults, I think the simple answer is, in all probability, a power surge. Solution: disconnect wireless from the mains supply, disconnect speakers and antenna, wait for about 30 minutes or longer. Reconnect to mains, connect speakers and antenna and switch on the mains supply. The wireless should now be working properly. If so, I suggest you purchase a surge adaptor from somewhere like Argos stores. A good one costs about £10 and is well worth being free of all the hassle of the wireless going into PROTECT mode due to a power surge.

I have a samsung ht-f9730w 7.1 blu ray smart player that goes into protection mode immediately and shuts down. Been unplugged now for months. How can I fix it?

by

A neighbour had the same problem with a HT-X20 DVD. I cleaned all the boards, checked the fan on another PSU, ok. I wasn't sure which pin was which for the power so was about to give up. But checked a 6800uF/6.3v cap and it did appear to be dud. Substituted a 1000uF/25v cap, the nearest I had. It gets past the Protection message, Open/Close works... I haven't got the speakers so there might be a hum issue now :)

Many thanks George!

I have a Blu Ray Samsung HTB-H4500R. This player worked for a few minutes before showing Protection message. Fan and inside cleared of all dust, but no improvement, even with lid off. Also no signs of components getting hot, or speaker wiring problems. Eventually fault cleared by removing front control panel, disconnecting the one ribbon cable and brush cleaning the reverse side of board with alcohol (where there were deposits of a sticky nature which were there from manufacture). Dust was attracted to these deposits causing a malfunction of possibly high impedance circuitry. The clue was that I had read elsewhere about disconnecting this panel on other Samsung Blu Ray players which cleared the fault and using the remote control for operation. I think the sticky stuff was used on screws going into plastic, and may have migrated with time.

Further to my previous post, I started to receive the same error message again. Further investigation of the main PC board showed evidence of a deterioration in what looked like solder flux on the underside of the board. This was washed using a brush and alcohol (methylated spirits - or maybe ethanol). If you place the board edge-on on some kitchen towel, you will see the offending material wash off. Using the board immediately after cleaning (even if it looks as though the alcohol has evaporated) will result in a protection error showing, but leaving the board to dry properly in a warm place for a few hours will enable the board to function correctly. Still working after 24 hours of use! One thing I also did was to give the spring mounted heat sink on the audio chips a little wiggle to ensure a good contact.

Hello I have a home theater system Samsung Blu ray it's works like 10mins after its goes off in stand by and it displays prot error

by

I need help guys

by

Had not realised that an update to previous post had not been made. The audio output devices had several dry solder joints. Suck old solder off, and remake joins. Still working today (Nov 2022). The real problem is that the Samsung designer under-estimated the size of heat sink required.

To solve that problem on Samsung tx35 check simply whit and ohmmeter which is connected between the +12V and GRND comming from PSU. If it is shows you short circuit than change the PC1 capacitor (330mF 16V) on the main board. No headache No protection error :)
