iPod is an unknown device after replacing volume flex cable

I replaced the volume flex cable on my ipod. When I plug it into my PC, the computer (Windows 7) recognizes that I plugged something in but doesn't know what (unknown device). Nothing happens on the ipod screen. If I exit the message on my computer (about the unknown device) and do a hard reset on my ipod (hold both buttons for 15 -20 seconds) the windows comes back up. So I think that means I soldered it right since the power button works. I'm not sure what to do now though. I tried plugging it into a different computer and still get the same unknown device message. If I check the status, it says, "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". I replaced the volume flex cable on a different ipod (4g), and the exact same thing happens.

I fix ipods/iphones (mostly screens) but I have never replaced a volume flex cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

During repair you most likely came in contact with some components to the side of the solder joints. Check if you burned or got solder on these components. I believe that these components manage the power of the iPod. When damaged your iPod will most likely will not turn on and would be considered dead. The only way to repair this is to replace the logic board. Sorry!

I was able to get one of the iPods working by somehow putting it in DFU mode and restoring it. I can't get the other one to go into DFU mode though.

I don't see any burn marks or out of place solder, but there are some scratches so that's probably the issue. Thank you for your answer.
