Replace ODD by 3,5" HDD

Okay, I know this sound rather strange. But since my ODD is broken anyway, I thought i swap it out for a 2TB 3,5" HDD, and upgrade the built in 3,5" 1TB HDD to a SSD. This way I would not have to touch the logic board at all and installation would be and in fact was quite easy. Only thing needed was a Slim SATA- SATA adapter.

Unfortunately the Imac does not recognize the HDD in optical bay at all. What did I do wrong? Please help

SATA comes in a variety of versions (speeds) if the versions are to far apart they won't play together. I looked for information about the SATA version (I, II or III) adapter you chose, and found nothing. iFixit warns about using incompatible SATA cables (also read the comments section from this link). I think that is your problem…
