MacBook Air installation issue

I installed a new batter in my 2011 MacBook Air. The battery life is only 2 hours not the 6+ that came from the factory. Any ideas? Do I have a faulty battery or is there another issue I should look at.

Thanks

If you did not buy an OEM battery from Apple - "you pays your money and you takes your chances".

New batteries have been known to fail right out of the box (especially cheap knockoffs). Also to some extent a new batteries performance may improve slightly shortly after running it for the first time (you charged it completely before using, and did not completely discharge it either - right?)

You can try an SMC reset and see if performance improves… and of course you are comparing apples to apples (not oranges or bananas) in your run life comparison. In other words you did the same sort of thing(s) with the new battery, as a test, as you did with the old. (Didn't compare run time playing DVD or gaming with the new battery with word processing & email on the old)
