Can I buy/install a replacement infrared sensor for my computer?

I spilled some liquid which seeped into the notebook housing and rendered my infrared sensor useless. The sleep indicator light still functions normally, however, after I dried it off completely. (MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2008)

Unfortunately since it's unibody you have to purchase the entire expensive upper case.
