Not Enough Video RAM

Can I upgrade the video card to a Radeon HD 4850 or better yet Radeon 6970 2 Gb. The current card is only 256 Mb. I read the upgrade from a 4850 to a 6970 but I'm not sure if it's the same for the 4670.

Here's the IFIXIT guide on replacing it iMac Intel 27" EMC 2309 or 2374 Graphics Card Replacement.

Looking at the image from the guide:

we can see the upgraded GPU was a Radeon 6970 with 2048 GB of RAM. So it can be clearly be done.

I must say not all of the iMac's have removable GPU's so you'll need to do some investigating to see if yours does, if it does give it a try! - Good Luck
