iMac 24" USB boot up and crashes at installation

Ok I got a 2nd hand imac 24 - 2211 - A1225

I can usb boot with multiple OS X retail versions. I can go to disk utility and partition hard drive read usb contents and see super drive all day long with no problems. Once I click install, it will start analyzing. it will say 30 mins. Then boom immediately black screen. I have to hold power button to reboot it.

What is the cause of this?

Thank You

Use at least system 10.5.2 DVD. Boot from it and use Disk Utilities to reformat the drive with the "write zeros" option. Next partition it and use the GUID partition option. Now see if it will take a system. Let us know if it works.

Hey mayer, thanks for the input. but what I came to find out was that the imac was firmware locked. figured that out because I could not boot into safe mode or use any of the option/command buttons at start up. so I read up and found that I had put a password years ago and forgot. so I did the ram trick and got the os x to install finally.

thank you

ok new problem, I can install snow leopard 10.6 and runs fine. once I install updates I get white screen and doesn't boot anymore. I try fresh/clean installing mountain lion 10.8.3. it installs but then blank screens during install. every so often when I force shutdown and power up. it will go to intall screen but then it will flicker at home page and white screen.

what am I doing wrong?
