Can I run OS 9.2 and 10.5 on the same G4 Mac?

As I have a lot of OS 9 software which I still use I am currently running OS 9.2.2, together with OS 10.1, on my G4 Mirror Door.

I have just acquired another 3.5 inch 160 Gb hard disk with OS 10.5 installed on it.

Can I install the new disk in one of the spare hard disk slots in the G4 and run 10.5 whilst still keeping 9.2 on the original disk?

Also do I have to uninstall 10.1 from the existing disk before I run OS 10.5?

You can run 10.5.8 on the G4's going back to the Beige machines. But classic mode OS 9 will not run with it. 10.4.11 was the last operating system that allowed classic mode. For a straight boot from OS 9, the last machine to do it was the 2003 Power Mac G4 1.25. Here's a list of machine capabilities: http://www.everymac.com/systems/by_capab...

Since your machine will take four hard drives you can have several combinations.

The only real advantage that I remember with 10.5 over 10.4 is being able to use Time Machine.

I currently have a G5 running 10.4.11 and 9.2.1 to be able to play all those old great games.

I am running OS 9 on my Intel iMac simultaneously with OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan.

I also run OS 9 on my Mac Pro that has OSX 10.6.8 on it.

So what you say does not hold true anymore.

You want to know how I did it?

@machp sure, I have one customer that refuses to learn anything past system 9. I have him set up with two MDD machines in case one breaks.
