How to open the Dyson DC16 battery pack?

I have a Dyson portable vacuum for which the battery pack will no longer hold a charge. It is Dyson DC16 battery pack 12097. So there are two questions here. 1) How to bring this battery pack back to life, if possible? And 2) How to open the battery pack so I can, maybe replace the batteries inside the pack?

If I can find out how to open it and end up replacing the batteries inside, I'd be glad to write a repair guide.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Opening the battery pack is possible, I used tooth sticks to simultaneously hold the notches on all sides open. However, the problem remains that I do not know of a reliable source for the six 18650 battery cells. There are a lot of fakes around which sell cheap but do not hold the nominal charge. A good replacement battery pack costs around $50, which is what you would have to pay for the six cells anyway. So IMHO it's not worth it.

I bought a replacement that had good reviews from amazon.com today. About $20. It worked right out of the box and is rated for twice the original's amp hours. I am also thinking about opening mine up to test and maybe rebalance the cells.

18650 batteries are common. Good ones are easy to source. I've used AliExpress, and I've had good service life out of them. Search for LiitoKala 18650. However, you should never use a soldering iron to assemble battery packs due to heat transfer. Best practice is to use a hobby spot welding unit, but these are expensive. Get a set of throw away multimeter leads and a 12v car battery. You can spot weld the tab strips to string the batteries together. Hold the tab strip in place with one of the leads and then touch the alternate lead on the spot near the first lead. A spark will result and if held there just long enough, but not too long you will get a good spot weld without transferring much heat to the cell. Remember heat to the cell=bad news and reduced cell life. You can get 6 of these batteries for $12.00. I think the Dyson takes somewhere between 4 and 6 of these depending on the model. I've used this method many time for various projects requiring these kinds of batteries.
