broken plastic pieces inside

I tried , using the step by step, to replace

my head phone jack, when i had finished,

my screen read , very low battery, so i charged it all day , and it still read the same, so i re-opened the iPod, this time

just the screen came off and i have numerous plastic pieces inside, i think i may have a little heavy handed in re-opening.so do i need a new case ? it will not close anymore, and did i put back

the iPod correctly , first time around,

should i have left it charge longer than a day ?

The very low battery error could be caused by a number of things but if the battery was fine before the repair and you didn't break anything during the repair as long you put it back together correctly there is no reason why it shouldn't work. A day would be plenty for it to charge.

As for the front it sounds like you have broken the clips which are used to secure the front to the internal frame by screws...
