What am I missing with dock connector replacement?

I needed to replace the dock connector because my phone was acting like someone was constantly pressing the home button. I replaced it and it fixed the problem but now it won't charge. I have put 2 different parts in it with the same result. I have checked all connections and everything is tight from what I can see. Could this be something that I am overlooking? The only thing that was not put back in was a tiny washer and that is because I didn't see where it came from. Please help I am pulling my hair out.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread---Dana's phone is solved and charging fine.

This was a "rice phone" uncleaned phone several months out from water damage. Phone had significant corrosion and therefore was particularly susceptible to pry damage. I replaced about a dozen very tiny SMD components---in particular the circled components in the picture that live near the dock connector. Put back together and phone boots and charges just fine.

In the focus on iPhone 5 charging problems in several phones recently I've seen:

1.) A bad battery--replace = solve

2.) Pry damage near dock connector = fix = solve (this phone)

3.) Pry damage near dock connector = fix= did not solve = phone needs U2 chip replaced = not feasible in general

4.) Fake charging=phone needed usb power management ic replaced (do-able)

5.) Fake charging = phone needed charging coil replaced (do-able)

6.) No charge/no detect = phone needs U2 chip replaced = not feasible

Picture is a series of before/after motherboard repairs on this phone. Phone seems normal as tested post-repair

Hopefully this will help someone else with iPhone 5 charging problems.

Sounds like you have installed a faulty part or damaged it in some way.. I would order a new part don't take the phone apart just plug the part in before you strip the phone and see if it charges

I have tried 2 different ones, what are the odds of damaging both or both being faulty?

Yea damaging both would be rare have you tryed the old one again and see if it charges..

If it doesn't then u have damaged some component on the motherboard

I unfortunately tossed the old part, here is the funny part. If I have the phone off and place the charger in the port it will turn the phone on. So it recognizes that but won't charge. I am not a happy camper!

Hi,

This is a common motherboard fault that can be caused by prying damage. I remember being stunned the first time i did pry damage--i had been so careful i swear!

The washer should be put in it belongs at the bottom of the lighting connector, that could be your problem.

Have you checked the fuse and coils near the docking connector socket and the battery socket.

You can compare it with this picture:

I wonder how that could've been damaged? So I would clearly need to take this to a person who works on logic boards. I couldn't change that.
