How can I tell if my laptop is upgradeable

A couple of things here. I own an HP Compaq Presario CQ62. It has 3 gigs of RAM and about 200 gigs of memory. I have no idea what to look for to see if it is upgradeable. I can access several compartments on the bottom quite easily. I use it for school. It is beginning to bog down when I start multitasking. I have backed up everything on it and reset it to factory default. I am still having bogging issues. No viruses or malware are present, so it leads me to believe I need more RAM and/or a faster processor. It is currently a dual core with 2 gigs on the first one and a single gig on the second one. The laptop runs Windows 7 and is about 4 years old. I have owned it for 3. How can I tell if it is upgradeable and if it is, is it worth my time and money, as discussed on other parts of this site, to upgrade it?

Bruce, based on your product number, you have a HP Compaq Presario CQ62-209WM. According to the service manual (available from here) it has 2 customer-accessible/upgradable SODIMM slots and supports dual-channel memory DDR3, 1066 MHz Supports up to 8 GB of system memory. It Supports 9.5-mm, 6.35-cm (2.5-in) SATA hard drive, and does support 750GB 5400rpm drives. Not a bad configuration and definitely cheaper than a new computer. Download the manual for further instructions and information.

Thank you for your help. I did download the manual. It doesn't appear to be a difficult task to handle myself.

Thank you for accepting my answer. The hard drive as well as the memory upgrade are really straight forward and you should have no issues with that at all. Best of luck to you

Hi,

On the laptops you can upgrade only RAM memory, HDD and processor. 3GB RAM for Windows 7 is enough (if you not starting in one time many applications). Only replacing the processor will increase the speed of the computer. But you will see difference no more then 10-30%. Say me the exactly model (digits after CQ62).

Regards.
