replaced screen - now it vibrates, but won't start up

I replaced screen, now phone will not start up, when i plug it in it vibrates continuously, but screen won't come on. iTunes recognises it. the power on/off button needs replacing, but did not affect operation previously to screen change (screen was cracked, but still working).

I have tried all connections 3 times and can't see anything wrong. I have tried 2 screens on the the first one did not work and i thought it was faulty, so I used another screen, I connected it all up to check the screen would work, before i screwed it all back together, it came on and worked fine, so I screwed it all down and now it won't work, just vibrates when plugged in.

any idea's ??

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I have had a similar problem. I just got my iPhone 4S screen fixed an now it will turn on but it will randomly shut off and than restart. My other problem is it won't fully charge anymore and it's almost like the battery is bad. I have no idea what's going on but it's weird.

Hi, Did you solve this issue?

I've had a similar issue with a 4s I just bought off ebay.

normally on screen changes i follow same as everyone else:

1. Power + Home button reset

2. check connections

3. check lcd in another phone verify it works

these didn't work this time, although similarly like you i tested the replacement first and had it come to life once reset. but then nothing when put back together.

Took it apart and checked it over but couldn't see anything wrong (all connections fine and no piched cables)- when plugged into my mac it would be recognised by itunes and then the charging beep would happen every few seconds. From the other side the backlight would come on. Oh and the board would get pretty hot too.

looking over the board under magnification there was a slight sign of water damage near the lcd connector. (indicators were still white and was told it had only been dropped so wasn't my first thought) one of the 4 tiny components between the two lcd connectors was missing due to corrosion (top left one) cleaned the board up and soldered a jumper between the two pads and it powered straight back up no problem and no heat issues anymore.

Just have a close look to see if anything might have been knocked off the board when changing the screen.

Hope this helps someone out.

This is definitely an LCD issue as I have seen it many times, and replacing the LCD always does the trick. Sometimes it can just be seated incorrectly and just needs to be pushed in properly. But the LCD is what's causing the problem anyway!

Mine did the same thing, I tried all the connections 3 times and I was about to give up, but then I plugged it in and held down the power button and the home button to reset it and it finally turned on.

only thing is either its not connected right or you have damaged the lcd cable again

Thanks for your comment Con, but respectfully those are certainly not the only 2 options - the lcd cable is not and was not damaged, and the connections are all correct and secure.

neither of your idea's would cause the phone to continue to vibrate as it is doing.

by

Well by the screen not working the backlight coil could have blown

There's not much you can do than to let some1 that knows what there doing to look at it

by

Geez Con! You seem to missing the point. You are assuming I know nothing. I asked for some idea's if you are unwilling to look at the information I have offered and make a valid suggestion then maybe it's best that you refrain from commenting! The backlight coil blowing would NOT cause the phone to continually vibrate like it is. Thanks for idea's anyway.

I had this issue start spontaneously after a customer brought back a device. Long story short - I found some insulating paint had worn off one of the cables (power cable) and was grounding/shorting against the mid-frame (at the top of the battery). I re-insulated with Kaptan tape, and the problem was corrected. Hope this helps.

Could be a defective replacement LCD screen. Try another one. The first one I bought failed, too, but they sent another and everything worked fine.

Anthony Spicer, HUGELY GRATEFUL for your comment!!!!!! I've been wrestling with the issue for an hour and had already given up when I decided just before going to bed to search online for an answer and resetting the phone worked for me! I looked at 3 different online videos and NONE of them mentioned resetting the phone.

reset your phone and it will work!!!!!!!!!!!!! hold down the power and lock for 30 seconds until the apple shows up and you get so excited you just throw the phone up against the wall.

I'm having this problem with my iphone 5c.

The screen cracked so ordered a new one.

Ive just gone to replace it and now neither screen works.

There is no apparent water damage or any damage with any connectors and as such its very weird.

I thought the battery may be dead but thats not the case. It simply vibrates every few seconds.

What do I do?

Reconnect and disconnect the battery and your phone will turn on

by

The last comment was correct in my case. I had a customer bring in an iPhone 6 with cracked glass and LCD. The next day when the part came in the phone wouldn't even turn on (before I took the screen off). It just vibrated when I plugged it in. Tried the new screen, no change. Left the new screen on and disconnected the battery for 15 seconds while pushing the power button to drain any remaining power. Reconnected the battery and it started right up. :-) Now I can go change my shorts. ;-)

Mike thank you so much this helped me out doing a iPhone 5c repair!

If you have relaced your screen and it makes a beep noise or vibrates every few seconds this is the phone telling you there's a problem with the LCD connected. You can try disconnect and reconnect the battery and if that doesn't work the screen is faulty and needs replacing

OK,

iphone 5g screen damage, juice / booze had leaked in upper body through crack. Phone seemed to work before repair although lcd was dead. Power button was 90% gone but still managed to shut off with home/power.

Repair completed, new screen testing = no start, no sign of anything on screen. No sign of battery low, NADA. When plugged in charger, double vibrates every 10 seconds or so. There was corrosion on lcd connectors (logic board connector) so I assumed bad connection. Reposition them 3 times, same old. 4th time the double vibration got replaced with a mild beep (?!?) one only on connection of charger (still nothing on screen). Throughout the whole process, phone overheats even while charger is disconnected and the phone is OFF.

Battery change = problem solved.

Long story short, lesson learned - try the simple solution first!

Thanks for the thread, really resourceful!

Is this phone Jailbroken? Then it will take some time before it boots up.

Hi Tarou, no, it's not jailbroken. No matter how much time it still hasn't come on. I was hoping it want a motherboard problem I am aware or a capacitor that can cause issues if it breaks, but I don't have the equipment to test that. I h\was hoping for some other idea's before I gave up!

I've replaced the screen on a 4S, it had an orange fuzz which went to white, which after about 6 seconds went to the normal background as if it was fine.

I replaced the screen again, and at first I got a white screen, then I did a hard reset and the phone's black now. Really not sure what to do.

Just went white as I was writing this, with with a grey border. Never seen this before.

Is something wrong with the motherboard? As this is the second screen ive used

In case it helps anyone, I've just had a 4S with this problem. Completely dead screen but when plugged in to a charger it does the double vibrate thing like on start up every 4 seconds or so but doesn't actually turn on. Also tried a hard reset but that didn't do anything. What fixed it for me was disconnecting the screen connectors at the top of the logic board for a minute or two (dont know if leaving it disconnect for any length of time helped or not, I just went to make a coffee) then reconnected them, then I either just turned it on as normal with just the top button or I did a hard reset, I cant really remember but I did one of the 2 and it turned on. Hope this helps someone.

I've been doing this since it started this issue (black screen, when on charge - vibrates 2 times). I suppose it is the LCD

My daughter drop her Iphone 4s on the floor. (about 5 inches high). After that it just kept double vibrating every 5 seconds and was black screen. Reset did not work... I just removed the battery and disconnected the lcd and digitalizer cables a few seconds and reconnected everything and put the battery back in place. It worked after that. There was probably a misconnection after the drop.

This is what happens when the screen does not work. it will just vibrate or beep every few seconds to tell you there's a problem. This means the LCD needs replacing.

I just did this, and what you have to do is disconnect the battery and then reconnect it.. Two screws and you can keep the screen cords in the whole time!

Good luck!

The folks over at Rapid Repair.com actually had to replace the LCD connector on my iPhone 6 main board to fix the issue.

I read through this thread. I didn't think it was possible, but when you can't get anything to appear on the screen and the iPhone keeps pulsating and chiming at you, you'll try anything. So I held both buttons to reset, and worked like a champ. Also, I learned not to buy knock-off screen assemblies. Buy OEM replacements. I had to buy 2 non-OEMs to get a good replacement. Siri wouldn't work, dim to talk on the phone didn't work. What a mess.

Solution:

Hi...I had the same issue and after reading some posts in the internet I tried pressing both "Power" and "Home" button together for about 10 seconds, and the phone restarted on its own.
