Is my iPhone 5 dead? Battery issues + iOS7

The week after I updated to iOS 7 my battery died one and my phone wouldn't charge or turn on, I tried entering DFU mode and bought new chargers with no success. So I sent it to Apple but my warranty had run out so they returned it unfixed also without any bottom screws!

Anyway I put it into phone shop who replaced the battery and screen (they claimed the screen was broke..) and it was working again! But after a day it stopped working, so I went back to the shop but they refused to help.

Then I bought another battery and done it myself this time, again it worked! I completely wiped it and all was good again but 2 days later the same thing happened again! It wouldn't charge or power on at all.

That's a total of three batteries. Is there any hope? I need my phone back!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

over all the iphone 5 is a horrible phone so many people have had battery problems and charging problem and can't find a solution..

Atleast when the iPhone 4 or 4s was bad with battery's a simple battery change and that was it sorted and if it wasn't charging just change the charger..

This doesn't seem to be the case with the iPhone 5..

@fixmart laboratory , good answer but please do not put your contact address in your answer. That will make it look like spam. Refer to your user page https://www.ifixit.com/User/626362/fixma...

You not the only one. My friend has the exact problem. Really hard to say if its the battery or the OS. The OS controls the battery, so the one way to know is to downgrade the OS to an older version. But even then there were battery problems. Hmmm, might be the hardware of the phone.

Alright thanks. Yeah I know I've read so much about this issue but have yet to find a solution. It's just really bugging me now because I've already spent money on a new screen and two batteries. Maybe it is just my phone but I'm doubtful.

Beginning to wonder why Apple really discontinued the 5..

i have the same problem with a iphone 5 as well completely dead.

i changed 3 batteries and still no luck.

at the end i tested the voltage on my new batteries and i found out the voltage is not correct.

all the aftermarket batteries i have only had a 2.7v reading.

i got a new battery after that and i couldnt get a reading at all which was really weaird.

i played around with the connections and finally i got a perfect reading and i put the battery back into the phone and BINGO! life was back on the iphone.

my guess is to see if u can voltage reading first. if u cant then that might be the problem.

try putting your phone in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour. My phone was doing the exact same thing but i couldn't afford to fix it so i just stuck it in the fridge. I had done the same thing with a previous phone that had water damage and it helped the phone as well.

Gabi, is it still working after you remove it from the fridge? For how long? what about condensation on the board that will build up? Could your board start to corroded with this?

i have done the fridge trick as well, works great. I think it is working bc the water in the phone freezes. when you take it out and start using it the water seems to evaporate and no problems occur. i dont know how about condensation build up.

My Iphone 5s battery life began acting erradically after I did a screen replacement. I initially thought I had damaged the logic board as it would not boot, but it would go to the start menu and immediately die and continue looping like this. I put it on a normal iphone charger and left. It miraculously turned back on. It would charge to 100% and be fine. Then it gets hot and starts dying about 20% per hour or so. If I viewed snapchat, or skype, 20% per minute. My phone would die a lot and come back on everytime. Anyways fast forward 4 months. My charger starts to not work going off and on. It was on a third party adapter and lightning cable. I use new apple cable and everything works fine. I keep using the third party usb adapter/computer. Anyways one day its on 54% and for some reason I shut my phone off. I plug into charger and the phone brings me to the low battery boot screen. I say no problem and go to sleep. wake up still nothin. switch to apple usb adapter. nothin. go to computer. nothin. 2days of chargin nothing. hard reset. nothing. plug into computer. restore. nothin. just now i took my phone off disconnected the battery. plugged my phone into charger with battery disconnected. brought me to the white apple, realized battery wasnt attached i guess, went back to the white apple looping, assumingly because the battery wasnt attached. so i reattach the battery after unplugging the charger. and still at the same low battery boot screen. So what I am thinking is that my battery slowly was dying holding less and less charge, and finally crapped out holding less than 1% and that whent the battery is plugged in all the outlet energy goes to the battery where its max hold is 1% and telling the logic board, hey! I'm at 1% but I am charging so don't boot until 5%! My solution is to replace the battery. I will let y'all know if it works.

There's only one solution for that which's getting an original battery from apple store!
