replacing an 80gb HDD 6th Gen with larger

Hi,

sorry for asking a question that has been asked before. i have seen a few threads detailing ipod 6th gen hdd upgrades, and many thanks to all those that have answered this question before.

i currently have an ipod 6th gen 80GB.

i am hoping to upgrade it to the 160gb toshiba m6134GAL (i believe).

Simulataenously hoping to replace the battery too.

Therefore is the following list a comprehensive 'shopping list' of what I will need before i start attempting the upgrade?:

1. 160 gb 1.8" HDD

2. A set of plastic opening tools

3. a replacement rear case (If the toshiba 160gb is 5 mm, do i need to opt for the thicker case or will the 'thin' classic rear be sufficient?

4. Is there a discernible difference between the 80 gb and 160 gb battery? which would you recommend? Will choice of battery affect which rear backplate i can put on?

5. i also read that I should upgrade the headphone jack assembly if putting a larger HDD in. Is this necessary if the replacement HDD is the same thickness as the one being removed?

once again, I would like to thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Greatly appreciated

paul

PaulJ, the drive you listed "toshiba m6134GAL " is hopefully erroneously and should read MK1634GAL. That is Toshibas 160GB drive, and it is a 5mm drive. Therefore all your parts should fit, and you will not need the thick back etc. The battery should be the same. Hope this helps, good lcuk.
