Water damage, no cameras or flash.

Recently dropped my iPhone on the road in snow slush. Found it with a smashed screen but no damage to the back and sides. Since having the screen replaced all works fine aside from both cameras and the flash. The higher water damage indicator is white however, the lower one is red. I am wondering if this is likely a problem with the motherboard and if ultrasonic cleaning or any repairs to the board would enable the back camera to function again?

I would definitely do the ultrasonic cleaning - regardless of if it fixes the camera issue, it may prevent further corrosion related issues from popping up.

It is possible that it might fix the camera issue, but that is hard to tell due to what the device has been through.

GUYS! I FIGURED OUT HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM! EXCUSE MY CAPS IM JUST SO EXITED I FIXED IT.

ok. here's how

open up your iphone, take of the metal braket holding the cables (ribbons) together on the main board. Disconnect all of them, and the very top cable (rear camera) clean with some sort of alcohol and a cotton bud (I used windex HAHA) . wipe the connected on the main board thouroughly with the cotton bud and don't forget to dry with a dry cottobn bud once cleaned.

now reconnect all cables, put metal bracket back on and watch your camera work!

Hi, did you ever try the ultrasonic cleaning or replace the camera? I am facing the very same issue. Phone repair store says not worth trying to replace the camera when not working due to water damage bc problem most often has to do w a motherboard issue. Wondering if its worth trying to do it myself or just give up.

Thanks for your help.

Waited 3 weeks and my camera/flashlight decided to start working again! I tried the alcohol fix and thought I fried the motherboard; it started smoking for a second (I was hopeless and carelessly had the phone plugged in while working on it). Regardless, IT WORKS! I suggest doing nothing and check daily to see if the camera works. Maybe have a fan blowing on the iPhone or providing a dry environment will speed the 3 week drying process.

(I got rainwater on my iPhone 6+. It wouldn’t turn on for a day, then everything worked except the rear camera/flash.)
