Doesn't Show in Device Manager - Loses Battery Quick

Hey everyone,

I just bought an iPhone 5 after my 4 stopped working. Right away, I've noticed the battery seemed to drain very quickly (time for a new battery?).

Then, when I plugged it in to the computer (multiple actually with the same result), it would charger but didn't show up in iTunes, My Computer or Device Manager (Yes, I went through every single one of them).

I've noticed under Universal Serial Bus Controller, I was suppose to have an Apple Mobile controller. However, that is not there. Nothing apple related is.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

These are probably two different issues.

1. For the phone not showing in the computer. I would first plug the phone into a different computer using your same cable. If the other computer sees the phone, and the phone sees the other computer, then your cable is good. If not, then I would suggest trying a different cable. If the different cable does not help, then the dock connector on the phone might be bad. You can get a new dock connector here, and then use this guide for the replacement procedure.

2. For the battery, it could be that it needs to be replaced. You can get a replacement here and then follow this guide.

Hope this helps!

Update

So, if the different computer doesn't see it and the different cable makes no difference, I'd recommend replacing the dock connector - as long as the other cable you used was verified to be functional with a different device. I've found that cables go bad more often than dock connectors, but both do happen...

Best of luck. Let me know what happens!

I tried a different computer. Nothing

I tried a different cable. Still nothing.

The dock connector seems fine. The headphones work. It charges fine.

I removed everything Apple related and reinstalled iTunes. Nothing.

Restored the phone. Nothing.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance
